Health Tips 8.26.2009 Flu Vaccine Available for 2009-2010 seasonal Flu We have received our supply of flu vaccine for the upcoming flu season. The CDC and the American Academy of Pediatrics recommend the flu vaccine for all children and adolescents from six months to 18 years of age, children who have any serious medical conditions such as heart problems, asthma and associated breathing problems, diabetes, blood and/or seizure disorders. It is also recommended for household contacts of these children. The flu vaccine should also be given to any child to reduce their risk of getting influenza. We are offering two different versions of the flu vaccine in our office this year. We will have the injectable form of the vaccine which can be administered to patients over six months of age. For children under 36 months of age, there is thimerosal free vaccine available. We will also offer FluMist, a nasal spray (live) flu vaccine. This vaccine has been approved for administration to children and adults between 2 years and 50 years of age if they do not have chronic lung or immune problems. Please verify insurance benefits for your child’s flu vaccine. If it is not a covered benefit or if a copay is due, you will be asked to pay at the time of service. Parents who wish to receive the FluMist vaccine in our office may do so for a fee of $30, due at the time of service. You may call our office at (918) 728-2000 to schedule an appointment for your child(ren)’s flu vaccines beginning in August.
